Version 2026-05-31 · Effective 31 May 2026
How reports, blocks, and community safety are handled on the portal.
Purpose
Private messaging and community features create a duty of care to members. This policy explains how reporting, blocking, and moderation work on the NGN Portal.
What you can report
Members can report messages for:
- Spam or solicitation
- Off-platform pressure
- Inappropriate conduct
- Harassment
- Impersonation
- Other concerns (with description)
Blocking
You can block another member from messaging you. Blocked members cannot start new conversations with you. Existing conversation history may remain visible to you but further contact is prevented.
Who reviews reports
Authorised NGN programme administrators and ExCo reviewers investigate reports. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation provides platform hosting and may escalate serious matters. Administrators access reported conversation context only as needed to assess the report.
Outcomes
Depending on severity, outcomes may include:
- No action (unsubstantiated or minor)
- Reminder or warning to the reported member
- Temporary restriction of messaging or other features
- Removal from mentorship or events
- Account suspension or termination
- Referral to NGN ExCo or MIF leadership for serious misconduct
Retention
Reports, blocks, and related messages are retained to investigate concerns and prevent repeat harm, typically up to 24 months after a report is resolved. Aggregated statistics may be kept longer without identifying individuals.
Appeals
If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, contact ngn@moibrahimfoundation.org within 14 days with your account email and a description of the decision you are appealing.
Emergency
The portal is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
These documents are published for the NGN Portal community. MIF legal review may refine wording before formal sign-off.
